How do you check the pharmacy?

Ask for the registered name before payment, then match it to the Texas licence. If the business makes batches of sterile medicine for clinics, also check the FDA list of registered outsourcing facilities.

The first check

Is the pharmacy licensed for Texas?

The Texas State Board of Pharmacy provides a free search for pharmacies and pharmacists.

As of September 2026, an out-of-state pharmacy could not mail prescription medicine into Texas unless it had a Texas licence or met a narrow exception. Texas calls the usual out-of-state licence Class E, or a nonresident pharmacy licence.

Sterile compounding

Is there an extra check for injections?

An out-of-state pharmacy that makes sterile compounded medicines, such as injections, needs a special Texas licence called Class E-S. Texas inspects it before licensing and again before renewal.

Match the exact pharmacy name on the label. A service name can be different from the pharmacy that actually made or sent the medicine.

FDA registration as an outsourcing facility is not FDA approval of the facility or its products.

Ask this before payment

“What is the pharmacy’s full registered name, where is it located, and what Texas licence covers this prescription?”

Website clues

What belongs on an online pharmacy page?

A Texas-licensed pharmacy that sells medicine online must link to the Texas State Board of Pharmacy and explain how to file a complaint.

A missing link is a reason to check more closely, not proof by itself. The board search is the deciding record.

Brief source note

Start with the Texas board search below to check permission to serve Texans. Use the FDA list as an extra check only when the business says it is an outsourcing facility.
